OBG=OMG

I have stated again and again that. how paranoid I would get with Obstetrics... You deal with two lives here and one mistake and somebody will take the burden of your wrong doing throughout their life . Being a Clumsy head I was pretty sure I would mess up things.  Gynaecology and Obstetrics posting order was given at last so the fear kept building up throughout the year listening to people's experiences. A day before the Posting   I had enjoyed my Radiology posting thoroughly and now on the last day , I loafed about needlessly! Munching some food, blabbering nonsense , fiddling with stuff . Clearly , I was dying of anxiety . What if the baby slips?😧 What if the mom dies ? What if I prick myself ? What if the  baby's head separates while I pull it?The anxiety grew hour by hour to an extent that I started nibbling my nails in some corner of the house .  Mother = Mentor My mother was a little surprised at this new development. I would usually be optimi

My First Camp

Hey! After having watched zillion camp on television where junior doctors go to suburbs or rural areas and do the "Samaj Seva" . I really wanted to attend one . So this Monday , I am busy with the routine post duty with a sick body 😜 sneezing , coughing . I get a call from a friend saying both of us are being sent to some camp this Wednesday. Is it? Sounds Fantastic! You'll get a call from the academic section soon.  Super excited . I kept looking at the phone every minute finally I receive the call and agree to join the bandwagon.  I rush to my PG and ask if I can go. He agrees and says you get attendance for attending the camp. I rush home take every possible immunity booster (healthy) to get well soon for the camp.  The day before the camp : Super Excited about the camp , I meet the Blood Bank Counsellor .  A rather lost expression that I (always carry) enter the room. She offers her chair and says ,  Madam , don't worry. (Who is worried? Wo m

Nil - Offer day

You have AMC on your last day? Thats terrible. Worst! Worst than a post duty.  Why? Areyy! you get up . End up in a new environment all tired!... Who wants that? Its not that big deal . Ill manage.  I said this because I didn't know what awaited me . The last AMC was pretty much good with a unit Biryani party to bid  farewell to our journey in Department of Medicine. Hickory, dickory, dock. The mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck 12 , The mouse ran down, Hickory, dickory, dock . THE WAR : Haha! Yeah it was the time to split up into shifts. Nobody was willing to shift between 4:30-9 AM . So , the ones leaving the department (Yes , you no longer work for us ! Go do the second shift 🙈 situation arose. ) All we had to do is Nod.  ZOMBIE : The anxiety of going to the new department didn't let me sleep. So , I turned up at 4:30 AM like a zombie . The time usually is sluggish in such situations but it just flew away.  RELIEVER

Lost in the rain forest

Lost in Rain Forest / Mental Hospital Day 1 was OP . Day 2 were wards .I had no idea where the wards were. Totally lost , I ask the staff there for directions . I see them giggle . One shows me they are towards left , the other shows me right. ( Okay Maria , done for the day. You'll have a tough time finding wards. Be prepared for the worst : I mumbled.)    One staff gives me some direction. Mandir ke paas hai dekho jao. But I could see no Mandir in that rainforest like area. With a baby face I went ahead , I saw a nurse . I thought a her to be a sane soul and asked for help. She agreed . She asked me so many questions. I told her that I wanted to go to the female ward . She wanted more specifications. So , I said Ill ask a friend and tell you.  My colleague wasn't receiving my call.  I : call hi nai lagra? Her: Aise dosto ka to murder hi kardena!  * I stare at her in disbelief*  She takes me to a place . I find no known face.  I call my colleague again. Sh

Erragadda Finally

Sounds crazy , but I have been waiting for my psychiatry posting since day 1 . Its safe to say that Osmania ward work made me go crazy that I landed up in mental hospital. 😜 A night duty followed by roster Ghich-Ghich with  co-interns , I retire to bed at 6AM .At 8:15 AM , my mother tries her best to wake me up but of no use. Finally , she uses the term , Maria ... Utho Erragadda Jaana hai ! I open my eyes with a wide smile and rush to freshen up with a beaming face.  Firstly , because I have never been to the place before . Secondly , the love for psychology (not psychiatry) . Then the eagerness to visit the Prisoner Ward .  All this gives the adrenaline rush to go . No breakfast , nothing! Just the place ! Like a kid , I hurried . The nature was in favour . Well, not finding traffic on Banjara Hills at 9AM is a sign that things are going to be awesome! So , yes I enter the Institute of Mental Science after taking directions from fellow intern , who sarcastically re

Department of Medicine - Day 1

Hey  people! Fasting and blogging don't really work well. So , here is one after a break. First day at Osmania General Hospital was so typical. The moment I enter the hospital , I see a corpse . Half a dozen people crying . Surprisingly , Like a cold blooded creature I moved ahead .  After collecting my unit order , I moved towards the wards . The filthy path with  annoying arthropods and bad odour.I find a familiar face yet again ! Having  A familiar person your co intern is such a luxury . You have somebody to laugh along . You have somebody to share a bad experience.  Both of us ran to check vitals. Nerve wreck, your ears don't work . No systole , no diastole . Hell yeah , I have Littman's but what if my ears stop listening to the roz ka BP song. What was new? Checking RBS ,   memorising the room no.s for all the Investigation Departments (Microbiology , Pathology , Biochemistry) . Filling up Arogyashree Forms . ( Oh God ! I did it ! ) Draining

Day8 - Second Night Duty ( Part 1)

Hey all ! Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it  can we see , hear , or feel it when it comes to us . It opens new space in your heart , where we celebrate , welcome new people in our lives.   The best and the worst thing about night duty is you are by your own discretion . But thats when you make memories and use the IQ you have! To start with ,it was just a regular day with moderate work load . A conversation with a colleague of mine made me realise that I had not utilised Alternate Sunday Day off feature at the Fever hospital . To fuel up the misery , I would have to be doing Night duty on the First Day of Ramadan followed by next day Outpatient and Emergency Outpatient cases. So , the impromptu decision was to try , request and reschedule my night shift. The attender who does it ,took a leave the same day. Till date KG to PG , I have had the history of dragging a friend to be a sidekick for all the administrative department . But here as a transfer intern
