Why choose Matthews over Davidson?

Hello people
After a Big Bang break , I am back into action to talk about the things I have been doing for the past two weeks . Surprisingly, studying.

There is always an ambiguity in medical students over which book to study to get through the UG examinations.

My take :

In my opinion , George Matthews is a go to book for all those struggling to get through medicine.

Choose Matthews if you :

- Donot make notes

- Are a 11th hour reader

-Hate the refer to table 2.4
or turn to page 234 for treatment

-Hate like you have studied in the previous chapter kind of text

- Like to answer to the point

-need a portable book

- Hate to carry sumo sized books

- Are fine with monotonous text

- Are used to spoon feeding

-Are fine with black and white print

-Want to ace in Viva ( Say that you follow Davidson, but answer stuff from here )

- Like it when every topic has the same blueprint

I have read both Davidson and Matthews , had a glimpse of Harrison .What I have analysed after making notes from both the books is a little funny.

- Harrisson is the father of medical literature ( I honour him with this title 😜 To sir , with love )

- Davidson is his Distant cousin from U.K.

- Matthews is his Direct Descendant

- Matthews has Sir Harry's DNA and is more sorted

- Matthews is light weighted (900 odd pages only)
-Matthews is aware of the fact that you have 4 months to study the vast subject and presents you the concepts in a simple language with the most sorted answers.

- Matthews follows a certain blueprint to explain every disease . So ,by the end of a topic you know what investigations are to be done ?what's the commonest mode of treatment ? And what physical signs you need to look for in examination .

But then there are a few cons on skipping which Davidson's reader base will punch me black and blue . Here you go ...

- Diagrams deficit ( has great flow charts to compensate)

- Black and white text ( We have solved all faded texts from all possible question banks for entrances , so Chill Pill )

To survive , you can draw color full diagrams from Davidson or elsewhere on a stick note and paste it in Matthews ( We all have friends who have Davidson, or Library Zindabad)

P.S. Never tell your professor that you follow Matthews 😜

So far so much
Take care
Happy reading

MRCEM OSCE preparation and resources

Hello people Since I have cleared my OSCE in one go, I feel it's my duty to journal what all I have done to make it work.(humble brag). Thanks to ChatGPT for helping me pile up some humble generic sentence to make this blog wholesome.(Just kidding). The MRCEM OSCE exam is an integral part of the qualification which tests the clinical and communication skills of candidates. For Indian students pursuing this qualification, preparing for the MRCEM OSCE exam may seem daunting. However, with a few tips that helped me sail through fine. The thing that helped me the most is acclimatizing myself to the UK Clinical Setting Before appearing for the MRCEM OSCE exam, it is imperative for Indian students to understand the clinical setting in the UK. Sometimes , all they want to see is how you behave , your body language, your tone , and your organising skills. Diagnosis is not a critical thing here. You will not fail if you get a wrong diagnosis provided that you have done it systematically. So

Hello everybody  I hope everybody is safe and healthy. it's been a while that I've been receiving lot of patients in the emergency with mental illness ,thought of sharing an incident of its kind. Not sure if its the awareness of mental health these days or the pandemic, I am developing keen interest in patients with mental illness .I try to take an extra effort to make them feel comfortable and try to create an insight of what is happening and offer them options of what all can be done.  Since this it seems like a step towards patient care , I thought I'd share it here as well. This would probably not be the best approach but I welcome any type of constructive criticism , additions or subtraction to my approach because end of the day we are here for best patient care. Professional Growth Spurts in EM

Hey all Once you're done with your residency . Things appear differently. Some people have a distant vision about such things while some realise at the moment. Nevertheless, the struggle is more or less the same. Remember going through growth spurts as a child? The too-short pant legs were embarrassing, but the achy limbs and joints made it miserable. Just like when you were a teen and all your comfortable clothes would no longer fit.
